A Girl Like You - by Gemma Burgess

Original Cover

The blurb:

"I've discovered the secret to successful singledom. I'm acting like a man. And it's working."

After breaking up with her boyfriend of, well, forever, Abigail Wood must learn how to be single from scratch. Her dating skills are abysmal, and she ricochets from disaster to disaster – until Robert, one of London's most notorious lotharios, agrees to coach her. With his advice, she learns to navigate the bastard-infested waters of the bar scene and practices the art of being bulletproof. The new Abigail is cocky, calm, composed… but what happens when she meets her match?

My Opinion:

Are you single? If yes, then you’ll probably understand Abigail ;)

Abigail is new to singledom. After seven years in a relationship, she doesn’t know, how being single feels and how to date other men. She lives with Robert, her flatmate. Robert is Luke’s best friend, Luke is engaged to Abigail’s sister Sophie. Sophie is two years younger and already engaged, great! ;)

Robert seems to be a real playboy, but he also seems to know a lot about dating. So Abigail is seeking his advice and writing these things down on a list, thinks like being cool and detached etc.

All her dates are not really successful and not fun at all. The men all seem to be very boring and dull. Robert is being a real friend and the two of them get along really well. The dates were fun to read about and so diverse as well. Already here I kind of felt with whom Abi was going to end up in the end, I still enjoyed every single page in the book though.

One weekend the whole wedding crew goes to France. The weekend is fun and Abi finally thinks she’s found the one. I emphasize the word THINK ;). I liked the way we read about Abi’s feelings and there was always something happening, there was no boring moment in this book at all.

Back in London Robert is behaving strange and she’s also confused about her current relationship.
On NYE something surprising and at the same time clear thing happened. I was really happy about that thing and it made the story even more gripping.

When she has to go to Hongkong for business, she collapses on something she sees there, the truth is finally out, Abi however is feeling horrible and I was so sad for her. Robert suddenly turns up and does everything to make her feel better. This is just so cute and adorable. Well, one thing leads to another and …

The scenes after that, were almost unbearable, because Abigail wasn’t true to herself. I couldn’t put the book down, because I so badly wanted to know what was happening next!

The ending is amazing, I really loved it and it makes you see, what true love really is.

What a great book!!! I really loved it and I couldn’t put it down. Hilarious, emotional and so much fun!!!
Don’t read this last bit, if you still want to read the book.

Are you gone, now is your last chance.

Robert and Abigail all the way!!! It took them a while to realise it, but their chemistry was undeniable from the beginning.
