The blurb:

Fall in back in love with life in this gripping read about fate and second chances. Izzy has broken off her engagement to her feckless fiancée Kieran and returned to her childhood home – the sleepy village of Halfhidden.

She soon realizes that life in the village is anything but peaceful – for one thing she’s living with her mad aunt Debo and her pack of dogs, and for another, Izzy has a lot of unanswered questions.

When she was a teenager, Izzy was involved in a terrible accident, involving various inhabitants of Halfhidden. As she sets out to discover what actually happened on the night of the accident, she realizes that her painful past is actually standing in the way of her future happiness. So when a handsome stranger comes to Halfhidden will she let love back into her life?

My Opinion:

*Book provided by the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Creature Comforts was my first book to read by Trisha Ashley. I’ve heard so many great things about her stories and I was really curious. Unfortunately, this story didn’t really do it for me.

I have to say the blurb sounded really interesting and I liked the beginning very much. Suddenly that changed and I couldn’t find a connection to it. I felt that there were a lot of characters involved, which caused a bit of confusion and I couldn’t find someone to relate to. I liked how Izzy wanted to find out the truth about the accident that happened so many years ago. She just couldn’t let go and it was still haunting her. There was a lot of drama included and the truth about the accident really was unsure, which made me stay in the story.

I think that part of it was very predictable and some things just progressed really slowly.
The only character that warmed my heart a bit was Rufus. They way he was there for Izzy all the time. He listened to her, spent a lot of time for her and I saw something developing there, which made me really happy, but then again it progressed slowly and I just wanted them to finally kiss. I had to be patient to find out about their future and I wasn’t sure whether Izzy was ready to love again!

Sometimes I felt that the chapters ended a bit abruptly and the goodbyes were unnatural in my eyes.

The chapters always started with her dreams and memories of what happened, I really adored that and it gave the book an extra spark. I also liked the connections to the dogs.

I can only give this story 3 stars. I really enjoyed it at times, but then I struggled again. I like the story behind it and Trisha’s writing is beautiful. I will definitely read more of her books, even if this one wasn’t really my taste.
