Winter in Gstaad

After a 2 1/2 hours drive through (mostly) fog we arrived in lovely Gstaad. I have been here before about 10 years ago, but that was in summer. A friend works here over the winter months, so a visit was just what I needed.

We stayed in the HUUS Gstaad, which is located in Saanen, so you need a car to g skiing and t get into the village. The hotel is pretty new, a mixture of modern and chalet style, very cute, with great rooma. The spa is also super, but there was no whirlpool. We were greated witha class of prosecco, then got ready and went up to Wasserngrat, where my friend works during the day. The view up there is breath taking, you can see Gstaad, Saanen and f course the alps. The weather was beautiful, we were able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. We had lunch, dessert and coffee up there, before going down again. The highlight: Seeing Andrea Casiraghi, prince from Monaco. He was skiing and enjoying a little cigarette and a beer and nobody disturbed him.
Back at the hotel we enjoyed a little apero, before swiming in the pool and enjoying the steam bath. Then it was time for a yummy dinner at the hotel, before going to the room and watching some tv/reading and then sleeping.

Village of Gstaad
On Wednesday we got up at 8 and went for breakfast. There wer yummy pancakes and more, I just loved the buffet. Then we took the bus into Gstaad, where we walked through the village and checked out a few stores. Unfortunately, there are mostly just the very expensive stores like Prada or Hermes. It's safe to say that I didn't buy anything. The nice thing about the village are all the cute little chalets, typical for the area in the bernese alps. When we looked for a place to eat in the sunshine, there was inly one possible restaurant and it didn't look that great, even though it was packed with people. We saw a free table and wanted to sit down. However, a waiter came up and said it was reserved, he said nothing else, not a sorry, nothing. Normally the find you another table or tell you how long you have to wait, nothing though. We went to a creperie instead, where I had a vegetarian crepe with mushrroms, mozzarella, spinch and tomates, it was great. After that we took the bus back to the hotel, get a book and went to sit in the terrace with a beer, it was so cosy and warm and we had a great view. For dinner we meant up with some friends from choir and headed to the restaurant, called 16, where my other friend works. We had a yummy passion fruit hugo for apero with some olives, meat and grissini and then went up the the first fooor, where we had our own little room. The food was absolutely delicious, mwe had great night.

The next morning meant sleeping a bit longer, packing, breakfast and then leaving. Since the weather was finally nice everywhere, we stoped in Interlaken and had lunch there. The town is nothing special, there are so many touritst there and it's full of shops for them. Of course you can get to the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau quickly, with the Top of Europe experience, bht that's it. What impressed me most was the drive to Brienz along the lake from Interlaken. We didn't take the highway, so we had tme to see and enjoy the view of the lake and mountains. The water has a beautiful colour there. That was the end of our little trip to Gstaad. I really enjoyed it, but I have to be honest: I have seen better winter resort/holiday places. It was a great way for me to relax though and to enjoy a little bit of a winter holiday.
